Happy 11th Birthday To The Coaching and Leadership Journal

Dan Spainhour

Eleven years ago when I wrote the first issue of The Coaching and Leadership Journal I had no idea it would evolve into what it has. We now have some of the top leaders in athletics and education as subscribers. We have many who have been with us since the very beginning.

When we officially launched there was so much speculation that subscription-based print journals were dead. But I knew what my years of experience had taught me Top leaders want to read and they want to learn--they just don't have time to waste on irrelevant information. In an era where magazines and newspapers are falling by the wayside I feel very fortunate that we have been able to sustain.

I am also proud that we have not raised the subscription price since we began eleven years ago. Yes, shipping and printing prices have increased but I remain committed to keeping our subscription rate the same. For the price of most people's monthly cable bill our subscribers receive a years' worth of valuable information delivered to their door.

It has been a challenge over the past year with budget cuts due to the pandemic but we remain committed to bringing our readers information that make them and their organizations better.  Like all companies we cannot ignore the bottom-line so it is important for our subscriber base to grow. If you are not already a subscriber I encourage you to join the team today. And if you are a subscriber I would greatly appreciate you spreading the word about or Journal. As we all know word of mouth marketing carries the most weight.

Let's all keep making a difference out there!

The following is a recent entry to Dan Spainhour's substack, Game Changing: Changing The Way You Look at Things So The Things You Look at Will Change I can’t even remember where I first heard it, but it is something that stuck to me like glue and has been with me ever since. “Don’t take it out on the coach!” So simple yet so profound. This simple saying has been my motto for life since my early days of coaching. You see, at the end of the day you will exit this world the same way you came in it—by yourself. Therefore, it is so important to take care of yourself and not allow others to live inside your head. When I first started coaching, I wanted to control everyone and everything. Along about my third year as a head coach, one of my players was arrested for stealing a car. I was immediately placed in a no-win situation. The player was a promising college prospect.
