Read About Patrick Mahomes & The Value Of Playing Multi-Sports

Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a rare breed of athlete, and the coaches at his Texas high school knew it. In addition to his performance on the gridiron, Mahomes was an elite pitcher for the Whitehouse High School baseball team. In 2014, his senior year, he threw a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts against current White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech. Along with learning more about Mahomes and the value of playing more than one sport, our subscribers are also reading about these topics:

Started in the fall of 2011 by Dan Spainhour, the Journal is now being read by coaches, administrations and athletic professionals all across the country and even in Canada.  Our subscriber list includes some of the top coaches in the business. Jerry York, NCAA's all-time winningest hockey coach has been a subscriber for over five years. Two-time NCAA women's' soccer champion Mark Krirkroian of Florida State has been with us for six years. Leaders are realizing that for less than most people's monthly cable bills, they can get a year's worth of valuable information delivered right to their door and inbox that makes them better leaders and more productive people.

The mission of the Journal is to provide information that leaders need to read and to do so in a short condensed version. Each month, Spainhour and his team scour the internet, blogs, articles, and magazines for information that will make you a better coach, leader, and administrator.

Dan Spainhour on his Journal...

There is so much information out there and coaches/leaders are such busy people that it is hard to find time to sort through all of the clutter and determine the value of an article, blog, etc. I use my 37 years in the profession to evaluate what I think is beneficial and then I take the meat of the article and include it in the Journal. I know that leaders know how important it is to be readers it's just hard to find the time. That's why I started this Journal. Also, I believe that we comprehend better when we can hold what we're reading in our hands. That's why our Journal comes to you each month as both a printed Journal and a digital version which allows you to read it as a book and also have it with you no matter where you are.

We would love to have to join our growing subscriber list.

Dan Spainhour On His New Book, Leading Narratives

Leadership Publishing Team Founder is the author of several books and is the editor of The Coaching and Leadership Journal A huge part of my coaching foundation was formed when as a very young coach, I got the opportunity to work the Duke Basketball Camp. My first year was the summer following Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s third season at Duke which saw his team finish 11-17—his second consecutive losing season. At that time there were lots of rumblings about how long it was going to be before he was fired. I’m sure Coach felt pressure but he never showed it. On the last night of camp, we always had a pizza party with Coach K. We sat around talking hoops, discussed coaching philosophy and there was always the occasional BS story thrown in. I distinctly remember Coach K saying that coaching is as much about choosing words as it is about coaching strategies. He said you must know your team and you must tell vivid stories—stories that not only make people think but make them feel the way y...

Dan Spainhour Is Writing For Medium

Dan Spainhour on his writings for Medium I see it all the time–people settle into a routine, or a career and they tell themselves’ “Hey this isn’t so bad,” and the years keep slipping away. Then, they become full of regret for the things they didn’t do, the places they didn’t go, or the things they never had. When I “retired” from coaching after 38 years I tried to make it clear that I wasn’t retiring; instead, I, like life itself, was evolving. When you change the way you look at things the things you look at change. I don’t know who first said that, but I came across it many years ago while reading a book by Wayne Dyer. It is one of my favorite quotes and quickly became a life motto for me. It is my belief that so much of the pain and struggle people feel is because they are looking at things the wrong way. They feel stuck, they’re not really happy even though they are doing the things that their family, society and other people of influence expect of them. Magnificent Mondays and Wo...
