Page One Of A Season In THEIR Words

The following is Page One of our book A Season In THEIR Words. A follow-up to the bestseller A Season In Words, Dan Spainhour has followed the same format except for this time all of the quotes are from coaches! A terrific motivational tool for any coach at any level!

It has been said that teams are made during the season and players are made in the off-season. I have never liked the word off-season because it tends to send a message that when you are not in season you’re off. I have always preferred to call anytime out of season as the preseason. Sure, I encouraged my players to get away from the game some but I wanted them to think of any time out of season as a preparation for the following year. The following quotes are from coaches addressing “preseasons”.

You’re never going to be driven
anywhere worthwhile. But you sure
as hell can drive yourself to a lot of
great places.--Bob Knight

I don’t believe that God put us on
this earth to be ordinary.--Lou Holtz

I’ve learned that if you have a
chance you better take it. Life is too
precious. I always tell my players to
enjoy the now.--Gary Williams

Ability is a poor man's wealth.--John Wooden

Discipline yourself, so no one else
has to.--Pat Summitt

Nothing will work unless you do.--John Wooden

Work hard, stay focused and
surround yourself with good people.--Tom Osborne

If you are not willing to work hard
and establish discipline in your life,
then all your dreams are merely pipe
dreams.--Rick Pitino

It's not the push from behind or the
pull from in front—it's the drive from
inside.--Dale Brown

The masters all have the ability to
discipline themselves to eliminate
everything except what they are
trying to accomplish.--Dale Brown

I learned early that if I wanted to
achieve anything in life, I'd have to
do it myself. I learned that I had to be
accountable.--Lenny Wilkens

The Journal was founded in August of 2011 and published its first issue in August 2012. At that time, Dan Spainhour, founder of the Leadership Publishing Team and curator of the journal said, “I am so excited about the Coaching and Leadership Journal. I believe this monthly journal is just what the busy leader needs. There is so much information out there and it can be so time consuming trying to find it. Coaches don’t have time to read blogs, and other material that can provide some really great information. Our journal allows them to get the information they need without having to waste time searching for it. I believe the top people in any profession never stop learning and that is the main objective of this journal--provide coaches and leaders the means to learn without having to waste their valuable time.” The Journal&
